MUMBAI
– Reinforcing its commitment to public health and urban sanitation, the Rotary
Club of Mumbai Pioneers successfully executed a comprehensive hygiene awareness
and distribution campaign across all major BEST bus depots in Mumbai’s South
Zone.
The initiative aligns local, on-ground action with the national missions of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, targeting behaviour change in high-footfall public spaces.

Voices
from the Initiative
"Public hygiene is built through everyday habits. By combining awareness with practical solutions like SafeThoo pouches, we aim to encourage responsible behaviour that is respectful and easy to adopt. With the BMC recently imposing stricter rules and fines for public spitting, this initiative specifically helps staff and commuters avoid penalties while maintaining a cleaner city." – Rtn. Nihar Shastri, Medical Director and Project Chair, RC Mumbai Pioneers.
Dr. Anil Kumar Singhal, Chief Medical Officer of BEST, was instrumental in the drive's success. Recently honoured as a "Changemaker" for his excellent contributions in his chosen vocation by Rotary International District 3141, Dr. Singhal noted: "We all aspire to be a developed and clean country. I am thankful for the support shown by Rotarians who come forward to help us with our goals and community upliftment."
Rtn. Yash Shah, President of RC Mumbai Pioneers, added: "These initiatives reflect Rotary’s focus on grassroots programs that combine awareness with action, particularly within essential public service environments."
